A 3on3 social basketball competition for women to celebrate Mental Health Month. 3on3 basketball promotes teamwork and emphasises the need for effective communication between teammates, fostering belief in each other, and promoting leadership. This one-day event caters for all levels of play with each team required to have at least one youth-aged (13 to 24). This provides an opportunity for different generations to connect through sport, and allows the youth to be supported and mentored. This is a fun day that will unite the community and create a positive conversation around mental health, with the hopes of raising awareness and therefore support early intervention.
The immediate goal of the event is to promote awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health. It is about starting the conversation about mental health and providing a supportive environment for people to talk about it. The event also provides immediate strategies to help improve mental health such as exercise, community participation, increased support networks and eating healthily. There will be guest speakers who will share their journeys with mental health that will let people know that they are not alone.
“KEEP CALM AND HOOP ON” T-shirts will be presented to all participants and these will also have the Mental Health Month logo printed on them!
