Let’s Talk – Young Workers and Mental Health in the Workplace

SafeWork NSW and the Young Workers’ Mental Health Collaboration are hosting a “Let’s Talk – Young Workers Mental Health” seminar.
Employers will discuss their approach to promoting the mental health of their workforces and young workers will speak of their own lived experiences with mental health issues.

The event will include the following speakers –
Mitch McPherson (2017 Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year)
Few people have the drive and dedication of Mitch McPherson. When his younger brother Ty died by suicide in 2013, Mitch, a glazier by trade, turned the devasting loss into the successful suicide prevention charity SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY.

Mitch’s list of personal achievements since creating the charity included – Premier’s Young Achiever of the Year Award 2016, 2016 Tasmanian Commuinty Achievement Award winner for ‘Healthier Commuinties’ , Clarence Citizen of the Year Award 2014, and many many more.
Mr. Andrew Johnson (NSW Advocate for Children and Young People)

Andrew Johnson, appointed to his current role in January 2015, has more than 20 years of national and international experience working in senior leadership positions NGOs, and international intergovernmental organisations.

His work has included management and oversight of large scale service delivery programming, policy development and advocacy campaigns. He has been requested to present to the United Nations, UN Security Council, US Congress and the Australian Parliament and at other world events on issues pertinent to children and young people. He was an Adjunct Professor at NYU, developing and teaching courses on child and human rights.

Other event features include –
The Big Anxiety’s Mobile Mood Lab is a converted ambulance, travelling Greater Sydney throughout the festival. The Mood Lab is equipped with interactive artworks by George Khut, developed in collaboration with Westmead Children’s Hospital.
Attendees will be invited to stay for lunch at the conclusion of the event.
